About this event

November’s full moon is the one that says: get ready.

Not in a frantic way.

Not a list of things to buy and jobs to finish.

I have always been drawn to the full moon.

I have never known why. I only know that when it rises, something in me wants to stop and mark it somehow.

November’s is called the Beaver Moon.

Named for the season when beavers stop gathering and start building.

A lodge.

A dam.

Somewhere warm enough to get through what’s coming.

I think most of us know that feeling, this time of year.

The nights come down early now.

Half past four and it’s dark, and something in the body just wants to be indoors.

So that’s what we’re doing this month.

Building.

Just a room.

Fairy lights and mats, and a studio that’s warm against the cold outside.

You don’t have to talk.

You don’t have to share anything.

You just have to arrive.

We’ll start with a guided meditation, about half an hour, into a lodge of your own imagining.

Whatever shelters you.

What you’ve been holding back, and what you’re ready to let through.

What you might want to keep safe this winter.

Then quiet journalling.

Private, on the page, nobody reading over your shoulder.

And then we make two small things with our hands.

A hand-rolled beeswax candle, warm wax and slow rolling.

It won’t be lit tonight.

It’s for a night later on, when the dark asks for it.

And a cord, with nine knots tied slowly, one word at a time.

Stability.

Patience.

Abundance.

Health.

Love.

Safety.

Focus.

Rest.

Remembrance.

Use your own words if these aren’t yours.

Leave a knot empty if that’s what’s true.

Both come home with you.

They’ll carry you through December, when there’s no circle, until we’re back together in January.

Some years, November’s moon is the last one before the solstice.

This is one of those years.

Some call it the Mourning Moon.

I’m not going to make anything of that.

I just want to say, if you’re carrying grief into this winter alongside everything else you’re preparing for, you don’t have to leave it at the door.

There’s room for it here.

There’s room for all of it.

September was about gathering what had grown.

October was going out to find what would carry us through.

The Beaver Full Moon Ritual is what comes after.

Keeping it safe.

It’s also the last of these evenings this year.

The moon itself is full two days later, on the Tuesday, but we’ll feel it building all evening.
